Chelsea news: Real Madrid target Thibaut Courtois drops huge transfer bomb
CHELSEA goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed his intentions to return to Spain amid uncertainty about his future at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been in contract talks with Thibaut Courtois for months but the Belgium international is yet to put pen to paper.
The 25-year-old’s current deal expires in 18 months and Antonio Conte has stressed the importance of the club getting him to agree new terms.
However, Courtois has admitted agreeing a new deal with the Stamford Bridge club is currently not his top priority.
And the former Atletico Madrid loanee has put the Blues on tenterhooks by reaffirming his desire to return to Spain amid talk of a move to Real Madrid.
When asked if he is waiting for an offer from Real Maddie before responding to Chelsea’s offer of a new contract, he told Spanish broadcaster La Sexta: “No. I’m calm.
“I’m happy at Chelsea but I just want to wait because now there are many games and I prefer to have my head focused.”
When pressed about his desire to return to La Liga, he added: "Everybody knows that due to my personal situation Spain attracts me.
“If it is not now, it will be in a few years."
Courtois’ claims are likely to put Conte on edge after the Blues boss stressed the importance of keeping hold of the Belgian this week.
“It is important for the club to face this issue, to face this contract with Courtois," he said.
"I don’t think that Thibaut needs my opinion. He knows very well what my thoughts about him are.
"I can tell that Courtois is one of the best - maybe the best goalkeeper in the world - and he is a player who is very important for Chelsea.”
