Real Madrid star said he felt like a criminal for this terrible reason
Karim Benzema is a player who sparks a strong division of views, especially since the Valbuena blackmail case, among supporters of Real Madrid.
But even more so in France where some find it impossible to understand how he remains away from the national squad.
Canal Plus have made a documentary for Benzema, where they follow him around at his home in Madrid, with his father at Lyon’s pitch where he developed as a footballer and in the gym at Valdebebas.
It reflects on the low points in his career when he was detained in a Versailles prison and he himself said: “you feel alone, without football, without anything, like a criminal. You think to yourself: ‘What are you doing here?'”
Friends and teammates also are in this documentary, including here Ronaldo, Ramos, Marcelo and Bale speak about his qualities.
“I hope he goes to the Russia World Cup because he is a fantastic player,” said Ronaldo.
Zidane added: “France has always been in his head. There was an issue but now that doesn’t exist and you have to look at what he can offer as a player for the national team.”
Meanwhile, his father, Hafid Benzema, revealed how proud he is to see how his soon has worked hard until now.
“I shouted to him as a child to score, score, score and not pass,” he explained.
“Now he can walk with his head high, how many times did I tell you to be quiet? You have to make sacrifices if you want to succeed. I did not like to shout at him in front of people and now I am proud of what he has done.”
