Lionel Messi's reaction when Ivan Rakitic passed backwards against Malaga
Barcelona fans needn’t be worried that Lionel Messi is yet to sign his new four-year contract extension; the club are preparing to offer him a lifetime deal.
The Argentinian agreed a new deal back in July but he’s yet to sign on the dotted line, leading many to wonder whether he’s considering his future at the Camp Nou.
But the club’s CEO, Oscar Grau, has revealed that a contract for life, similar to the one Andres Iniesta recently signed, is in the offing.
"Messi signed a four-year deal in June, but the club will offer him a lifetime contract," Grau said on Saturday, per ESPN.
“The idea is for Leo, who has been here since he was little, to stay here for life because he is an icon.
“After his playing days we want him to continue to be linked to the club."
The 30-year-old has made a terrific start to the season, scoring 15 goals in all competitions.
And while he wasn’t on the scoresheet against Malaga on Saturday evening, Messi still played a role in the 2-0 win.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner provided the assist for Andres Iniesta as the Spanish playmaker doubled Barca’s lead in the second half.
MESSI WAS ANNOYED WITH RAKITIC
It was a comfortable win for Ernesto Valverde’s side, who now sit eight points ahead of Real Madrid.
Yet, despite the win, footage shows two moments where Messi wasn’t completely satisfied.
Both came when Ivan Rakitic was in possession of the ball. Instead of passing the ball forward, the Croatian either went backwards or sideways.
Notice how Messi reacts to both moments.
