Lionel Messi makes sensational claim about Cristiano Ronaldo… This will never happen

LIONEL MESSI has claimed he doesn’t reckon he and Cristiano Ronaldo can ever be friends in the future.

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated world football over the past decade with the duo sharing the end of year Ballon d’Or honours since 2007.

The Argentina international leads his rival with five to Ronaldo’s four but the latter is odds-on favourite to win this year’s award.

Messi, who finally was officially announced to have signed a new four-year contract at the Nou Camp, won his fourth European Golden Shoe award on Friday.

The debate between football fans on who is better out of Messi and Ronaldo will continue to roll in for many years to come.

Their talents have graced the world of football and scoring exploits have set new records across Europe.

But while the two often come face to face in the ‘El Clasico’ for Real Madrid and Barcelona, Messi has revealed they rarely speak and can’t see a time when they would ever strike up a friendship.

"I don't know if we will be [friends in the future],” Messi told Marca.

Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other.

"We have no relationship, mainly because we only see each other at awards ceremonies and that's the only time we speak. 

“Everything is fine, but our lives don't cross over very often."
