Details of Cristiano Ronaldo’s new contract revealed
Real Madrid are reportedly keen to offer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo an improved contract before the 2018 FIFA World Cup – here are the suggested details of the whopping deal, which still remains short of Lionel Messi’s record package.
In the beginning of the season, Ronaldo’s future at Los Blancos seemed in doubt. He was shooting blanks and Real’s bosses were reportedly not prepared to offer their ageing star the new contract he wanted in order for his salary to be in line with Messi and Neymar’s latest deals.
The Portuguese was understood to be upset with his club’s position, and rumours of him wanting to leave surfaced.
However, the winds have changed, and Ronaldo has been in superb form in 2018. Overall, the 33-year-old has now scored 42 goals across all competitions this season.
As a consequence, Real have now told their key player they are planning to offer him an improved contract, according to AS.
General director Jose Angel Sanchez has reportedly informed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner of the club’s plans, and the player is believed to view the proposal a positive one.
The Spanish publication has claimed that Ronaldo could get a raise from his current salary of €21 million (R310 million) annually to €30 million (R443 million) a year, plus a further €2 million (R30 million) in add-ons, even though the length of his current deal – until 2021 – will not be adjusted.
The suggested offer would raise the Portuguese’s annual salary by about one third, but he would still stay behind Neymar, who is believed to earn €35 million (R512 million) yearly, and Messi’s current deals. The Argentine is reportedly the highest paid player in football, pocketing €45 million (R665 million) after deductions annually.
