Man Utd handed Samuel Umtiti boost as Barcelona star makes transfer suggestion - report
BARCELONA are eyeing potential replacements for Manchester United target Samuel Umtiti, it has been claimed.
Barcelona are on the hunt for Samuel Umtiti replacements, it has been claimed
Umtiti has emerged on the Red Devils’ radar with Jose Mourinho on the hunt for a new central defender.
The France international has been in talks with Barcelona over a contract extension but negotiations have hit the buffers.
Reports in Spain suggest Gerard Pique is concerned about losing his defensive partner after just two seasons at the Nou Camp.
And, according to Don Balon, he has aided Barcelona chiefs by suggesting a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos if Umtiti does leave.
Umtiti currently has a €60million (£52.6m) release clause in his contract that runs until 2021.
The 24-year-old wants to treble the €3m (£2.63m) he earns per season but Barcelona are reluctant to meet his demands.
Barcelona are eager to increase the value of Umtiti’s buyout clause to avoid losing him for a relatively low free.
However, head coach Ernesto Valverde has claimed the club are not too concerned by the presence of the release fee.
“To an extent, the buyout clause is made high so that you can't buy the player,” Valverde said in January.
“But, as time goes by, that fee doesn't seem so high at all.
"But the player still has to want to leave.
“We're very happy with Umtiti and I'm sure he's going to stay here for a very long time.”
Barcelona are eyeing PSG defender Marquinhos
Umtiti has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Don Balon claim Los Blancos also fancy Marquinhos.
The Brazil international has established himself as a regular for PSG.
The French champions would reportedly demand an ‘astronomical’ fee to sell Marquinhos.
