Chelsea news: Pat Nevin makes bold claim about Antonio Conte replacement
CHELSEA will not disappoint with their replacement for Antonio Conte, according to Pat Nevin.
Chelsea are a club in turmoil with Antonio Conte’s future at Stamford Bridge hanging in the balance, despite winning the Premier League last term.
Express Sport understands the 48-year-old could be sacked if the Blues fail to get a result at Watford this evening.
A number of big-name managers have been tipped to replace the Italian, with former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique the early frontrunner.
And club legend Pat Nevin has claimed, although it would be a shame to lose Conte, he is confident the Blues will not disappoint with his successor.
“The fanbase love Antonio. I like him a great deal. I rate him as a coach as well,” Nevin told Irish radio station NewsTalk.
“I hope he doesn’t go.
“But the next guy will be pretty good as well.”
The bookies currently have ex-Barca boss Enrique as the favourite to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
But familiar faces Carlo Ancelotti, Guus Hiddink and Roberto Mancini are also in the frame.
Conte’s recent quotes would suggest he also feels his time may up, admitting he does not expect his calls for a vote of confidence to be answered.
“When there are these rumours about me since the first game of the season, maybe I’d like the club to prepare a statement to say they trust me in my job,” he said.
“I know this never happened in the past, so why should I hope for something different?
“But I’d like to have a statement of support against this speculation.
“It’s a big challenge to change the approach now. But I’d be glad. You only need one person to speak to make this happen.
